first annual 20 hours for Art MARATHON OF POETRY and SONG

A fundraising event for the Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands. Local and international poets read non-stop for 20 hours at the Dominion Hotel -- the oldest operating hotel in Haliburton County, and one of the oldest operating hotels in Ontario.  

This event was a partnership between the Haliburton Highlands Writers' and Editors' Network (HHWEN), the Dominion Hotel, the Conjurers of County Town and TheRightEyedDeer Press
. All donations received help support the continued operation of the Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands Artists in the Schools program..

The Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands strives to provide a strong voice for the arts in Haliburton County; to serve as a catalyst for community economic development through the arts; and, through the facilitation of collaborative relationships among artists, organizations, businesses and government, contribute to the vibrancy of the arts and community life.

The Haliburton Highlands Writers’ and Editors’ Network is a non-profit umbrella organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting the art and skill of writing, fostering literacy, and providing moral support to writers and editors through education and networking, both independently and in cooperation with existing organizations.

The Dominion Hotel: The oldest operating hotel in Haliburton County, and one of the oldest operating hotels in Ontario. Home of the monthly gathering of Live Poets and three Dead Poets events each year.

Conjurors of County Town: A co-operative community theatre group, operating for the past five years in Haliburton County. Produces an annual summer outdoor theatre production featuring locally written works highlighting local history. Also runs the Minden Ghost Walks and the Dead Poets Society.
